Structural Glazing & Rooflight Specialists

High-Performance Rooflight Systems London

Most of our lantern work is the Sheerline S1 in aluminium. The frames are slim, so you get more glass and more daylight, and the thermal break keeps the warmth in. They suit nearly every kitchen extension we see across London.

For a flatter, more modern look we fit fixed or walk-on flat glass rooflights. From inside you see glass and almost no frame — ideal over a side return or a clean, contemporary extension.

Conservation Area Expertise: If you're in a conservation area, we use low-profile heritage rooflights that sit flush with the tiles. They bring the light in without changing the look of the roof, which keeps the council happy.

Every rooflight installation includes:

☀️ Sheerline S1 aluminium — slimline profiles, maximum daylight
🌡️ U-value down to 1.0 W/m²K — better than Building Regs require
✅ Double or triple glazing with solar-control coating
✅ Marine-grade powder coating — white, anthracite, or bespoke
✅ Self-cleaning solar glass as standard
✅ FENSA certified installation with full sign-off
✅ Conservation area heritage rooflights available
And much more!

Rooflight installation London - Sheerline S1 roof lantern

Roof Lanterns — Sheerline S1

The Sheerline S1 has a proper thermal break running through it and double or triple glazing on top, so the heat stays in over winter and the solar-control coating stops the room cooking in July. We've fitted plenty that the owners now use as their main living space all year round.

✔️Slimline 50mm Rafters

The slim rafter profile means more glass area and more natural light flooding into your extension — a dramatic difference compared to older, bulkier aluminium systems.

✔️Thermal Break Technology

A multi-chambered frame with thermal break running right through it achieves a U-value of around 1.0 W/m²K — comfortably better than Building Regs ask for. Less heat escaping, smaller heating bills.

✔️Solar-Control Glass

Self-cleaning solar glass reduces glare and heat build-up in summer while maximising useful daylight year-round. Keeps the room comfortable without blinds or shutters.

✔️Marine-Grade Powder Coating

The white powder-coated frame is clean and unfussy, working whether your extension is modern or traditional. Available in anthracite grey, white, or custom RAL colours.

Flat Glass Skylights & Conservation Rooflights

We fit the full range of structural glazing solutions — from walk-on flat glass over basements to flush-fitting conservation rooflights for period properties and Listed Buildings.

Flat Glass Skylights: Fixed or opening, flush-fitting units for a completely frameless look. Ideal over side returns, kitchen extensions, and contemporary renovations.
Walk-On Rooflights: Structural glazing units rated for pedestrian load — perfect over lower ground floor spaces, basements, and roof terraces.
Conservation Rooflights: Low-profile heritage units that sit flush with the roof tiles. Designed to satisfy conservation officers and planning departments first time.
Planning Permission: Rooflights usually fall under Permitted Development as long as they don't project more than 150mm above the existing roof slope. We advise on this as part of our free survey.

Technical Specification & Performance

We take our time on the actual fit — getting the upstand square, bedding the unit down properly and sealing it so there are no leaks or cold spots a couple of winters down the line.

Upstand & Sealing: We get the upstand perfectly square and use high-grade mastics to fully weatherproof the installation. A poorly installed rooflight will leak — ours don't.
Structural Assessment: We assess the existing roof structure and advise on any reinforcement needed before installation. No surprises mid-project.
Full FENSA Certification: Every installation is fully certified and compliant with current building regulations. Documentation provided for your records and building insurance.
Combined Projects: We also fit windows and doors. If you need glazing supplied and fitted anywhere in London, we can usually sort that on the same job rather than you chasing two trades.

Rooflight FAQ

Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern in London?

Usually not. A rooflight normally falls under Permitted Development as long as it doesn't project more than 150mm above the roofline. Conservation areas and Listed Buildings are the exception — we'll spec a heritage rooflight and help you get it approved.

What is the U-value of a Sheerline S1 roof lantern?

The S1 gets down to a U-value of around 1.0 W/m²K thanks to its multi-chambered thermal break — comfortably better than Building Regs require. In plain terms: less heat escaping and smaller heating bills.

Will a rooflight make the room cold in winter?

No — not with a modern frame. The Sheerline S1 has a proper thermal break and double or triple glazing, so the heat stays in over winter. The solar-control coating also stops the room overheating in July.

Can you fit rooflights in a conservation area?

Yes. We use low-profile heritage rooflights that sit flush with the tiles and satisfy conservation officers. We handle the paperwork and liaising with planning so it gets signed off without a fight.

How much does a rooflight installation cost?

Cost depends on the size, specification (flat glass vs lantern vs conservation), and any structural work required. We provide a fixed, accurate quote after a free site survey — no estimates over the phone.
